Rocket Licensing Details U.K. Partners for ‘Smurfs: Lost Village’


LONDON -- Rocket Licensing has announced details of its latest additions to its U.K. licensing program for the upcoming Smurfs: Lost Village movie, that will be hitting cinemas on March 31st 2017. Rocket is representing Sony Picture’s new animated Smurfs movie, alongside classic Smurfs, on behalf of brand owner International Merchandising, Promotion and Services of Belgium (I.M.P.S) in the UK and Eire. Merchandise will launch in Q1 2017 targeting boys and girls aged 6-9, teen and tween girls with a secondary audience of families, adults, nostalgia and gift buyers.

The newest additions to Rocket’s U.K. merchandise program for the upcoming film include Aykroyd & TDP to develop a line of kids’ nightwear and, to expand the apparel category, Fashion UK is now on board for kids’ daywear and swimwear. These latest additions join Inphase that will debut a collection of car accessories, including air fresheners and PMS International that Rocket has appointed for a line of gifts, stationery and pocket money toys.

Rocket also represents the classic Smurfs brand in the U.K. and has recently bolstered its line-up of apparel partners. Casa Chicos has been signed for a line of Smurfs babywear that will launch in SS17 at Mothercare and further bolstering the category, Trademark is producing a range of adults’ t-shirts using the classic style-guide and Somerbond continue to produce classic adult nightwear and underwear with new designs hitting retail at the end of the year.

These ranges will support I.M.P.S’ master toy partner, Jakks Pacific that will be a launching a range of playsets and figurines for the new movie. Ferrero and McDonalds have also been appointed for global promotional deals to build excitement around the film release.

Thinkbox Software Releases Frost MX 2.0; Launches Beta for Frost MY 2.0


LOS ANGELES -- Thinkbox Software has announced the availability of Frost MX 2.0, a major update to the fast and flexible plug-in for Autodesk 3ds Max. A go-to tool for meshing particles and fluid simulations for many artists, Frost MX 2.0 nearly doubles the performance of previous releases, integrates more deeply with Chaos Group’s V-Ray and introduces new workflow improvements for greater ease of use. Thinkbox has also launched the beta for Frost MY 2.0, the Autodesk Maya version of the plug-in.

With up to twice the speed in particle meshing modes, Frost MX 2.0 allows artists to increase productivity and complete jobs more quickly. Its integration with V-Ray v3.1 and higher enables customizable particle scattering for distributing and rendering millions of mesh instances in Custom Geometry meshing mode. The new V-Ray Instancing mode leverages dynamic memory allocation to render millions of high-resolution meshes with very low memory overhead. Frost MX 2.0 continues to support all Custom Geometry features in V-Ray Instancing mode, including particle channel propagation, material and shape ID controls, animation timing offsets and motion blur from particle velocity. Coupled with the advanced particle generation and Magma data channel manipulation capabilities offered by Thinkbox’s Krakatoa MX, which is available at no extra cost via the License-Free mode, the V-Ray Instancing feature offers a whole new world of power and flexibility to Frost users.

“The latest version of Frost is a massive leap forward in terms of speed. By stripping away much of the computational burden traditionally associated with data-heavy particle meshes and fluid simulations, we’re enabling artists to work more dynamically and see their work come to life more quickly,” said Chris Bond, founder, Thinkbox Software.

Additionally, the new region of interest option in Frost MX 2.0 lets users easily define a custom bounding box region that can be applied to Viewport meshing for faster previews while adjusting settings of complex particle data sets, to remove unwanted areas in Render-time meshing, or both. A dedicated Frost menu bar has been added to 3ds Max’s main menu for faster access to major features such as creating Frost objects, auto-adding new sources to a Frost object, accessing the Log window, and mass-changing the meshing mode of selected Frost objects.

‘Peter Rabbit’ Wins at Cynopsis Kids !magination Awards


NEW YORK & LONDON -- International TV production and licensing company Silvergate Media has announced that Peter Rabbit, its Emmy-winning 3D-animated TV series for preschoolers, has won an !magination Award.

Peter Rabbit won an award for best TV Series Based on Books at the Cynopsis 5th Annual Kids !magination Awards. The award recognizes the translation to TV of children’s literary work. Peter Rabbit was also nominated for Preschool Series/Special and received an honorable mention at the awards ceremony.

Peter Rabbit was developed by Silvergate and Penguin Books. Beatrix Potter’s classic character returned to the screen in 2013 in a brand-new CG-animated series for Nickelodeon (Nick Jr) and the BBC (CBeebies), with gorgeous animation provided by Ireland’s Brown Bag Films.

“We are proud of the industry recognition for Peter Rabbit which is testament to the great work Paula Rosenthal and her team have done,” commented Silvergate CEO Waheed Alli. “The new animation is an inspiring and playful re-imagining of Beatrix Potter’s timeless children’s classic.”

Foothill Entertainment Joins ‘Mother Goose Club’


SANTA BARBARA, CA -- Sockeye Media, producers of the preschool entertainment property Mother Goose Club, has appointed Foothill Entertainment as distributors for this fun and educational brand. Mother Goose Club has become a YouTube sensation receiving over 6 billion views to date. The announcement was made by Jo Kavanagh Payne, CEO, Foothill Entertainment, and Harry Jho, CEO, Sockeye Media.

Under the terms of the agreement, Foothill Entertainment will present the series for the first time at MIPJunior and MIPCOM. 52 x 11’ episodes, featuring new, never-before-seen content, are available for broadcast and multi-media platforms. Foothill Entertainment will also act as co-executive producers and co-develop with Sockeye Media an all-new CGI-animated version of Mother Goose Club series for the global marketplace.

Created by educators and parents of four, Harry Jho and his wife Sona Jho of Sockeye Media, Mother Goose Club was developed to fill a gap that they identified in the children’s programming space. Featuring a cast of six colorful characters who bring classic nursery rhymes and original songs to life, the emphasis on words helps young children learn language skills, while the rhythms and melodies, that are the hallmark of the Mother Goose Club songs, inspire them to get up and dance. Combined with compelling animated segments and backgrounds, Mother Goose Club has proven to be appealing to children worldwide, and equally to parents, with its mission to promote childhood literacy.
